Introduction

Group Package 1 websites contain a mix of default verbiage and imagery, with your group's details. This is managed for you by Scouts Online. There is no ability change the settings.

If you'd like to upgrade to a higher package level, please contact us.

Scouts Online website come with an extensive set of pre-populated pages.

Page Management enables pages to be switched on or off. You may override the menu title, sub-title and page header. You can also set the privacy level of pages, to create members-only pages for logged in website users.

The following panels show specific tasks. Click on a panel to see the procedures.

Find Useful Pages

Look through the standard set of pages available and pick ones that would be useful to you.

Your Scouts Online website includes lots of standard pages that you may use.

There are pages that are switched off as standard, that may be of use to you. The number of pages available will depend on the website package level you have.

To look through the standard page set, follow these steps:

  • Login with a Site Admin username and password
  • Open Admin/Page Management
  • Click the Plus and Minus symbols to expand and collapse each menu and sub-menu
  • Look through the unticked (Unticked) pages. see Fig. 1
  • Tick the box to enable the page (Ticked) and click Save Changes
  • To view the page, you can use the website menu, or find the page in Page Management again and click the page name shown next to the Ticked
  • To disable the page again, untick the page and click Save Changes

You may also find useful pages in the Standard Non-Menu Pages section that are already switched on. You may add links to these pages from within your page content and Links List modules.

Switch On/Off Pages

Enable useful pages or disable unwanted pages.

Enable useful pages or disable unwanted pages.

To enable/disable pages, follow these steps:

  • Login with a Site Admin username and password
  • Open Admin/Page Management
  • Navigate through the menus and pages
  • Click the Plus and Minus symbols to expand and collapse each menu and sub-menu
  • Locate a page and Ticked or Unticked the page
  • Ensure that the Privacy field is set to allow/disallow public viewing
  • Click Save Changes

NB. If you switch on a page in a menu that only has one page enabled as standard (E.g. Contact Us page/menu), a menu will be created, which will contain both pages.

Set Members Only Pages

Limit viewing of certain pages to volunteers, members or parents that have logged in to your website.

You may limit the viewing of almost all pages on your website to users that have logged in, or for website administrators.

This allows you to create members only areas of your website, have safe areas for photographs and private content, or just to keep new pages hidden until you're ready to publish them.

To set the privacy level of a page, follow these steps:

  • Login with a Site Admin username and password
  • Open Admin/Page Management
  • Navigate through the menus to find the page to change
  • Change the Privacy field. See Fig. 1
  • To show the page on the menu, but still limiting access, tick the Show If Private field. All website visitors will see the page on the menu, but will be prompted to login before they can view the page. See Fig. 2
  • Click Save Changes

Sectional Private Pages

You can restrict page access so that only members or parents of a specific section can view a sectional page, without showing it to members of other sections.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Set the privacy of the page to "Users with authority to view the section"
  • In Admin/Page Management, create a Generic User for parents of Scouts. See here.
  • In Page Management, configure the Website View and Administrative Rights fields. Ensure only section you want to allow access to is ticked. Untick all the Admin tick boxes.
  • Similarly, you can restrict a page to Leaders of a particular section by setting the page privacy to "Section Admin or Content Contributor" and giving your leaders Section Admin rights for their section.

Change Menu Names

Change a main menu name to a similarly sized word.

Scouts Online websites use a standard main menu to ensure future proofing.

When new themes are developed, they are tested against the standard menu names to ensure that they are readable and fit on the screen for lots of different device screen sizes. We therefore recommend that changes to the menu names is limited to similarly sized words. For the same reasons, it's not possible to add pages and menus to the standard set.

However, if you want to change a menu name, follow these steps:

  • Login with a Site Admin username and password
  • Open Admin/Page Management
  • Navigate through the menus to find the page to change
  • Change the text in the Menu Title field. See Fig. 1
  • Click Save Changes
  • To change any Menu Title back to the standard title, just blank out your text and click Save Changes

Change Page Titles

Change the name of a page or a menu, the menu sub-title and the pages' header title.

You can change the name of a page or a menu, the menu sub-title and the pages' header title.

However, if you want to change a menu name, follow these steps:

  • Login with a Site Admin username and password
  • Open Admin/Page Management
  • Navigate through the menus to find the page to change
  • Changing the Menu Title field will change the text that appears on the menu
  • Changing the Menu Title field will change the text that appears below the menu title on the menu
  • Changing the Page Header field will change title that appears at the top of the page when it's displayed
  • Click Save Changes
  • To change these fields back to their default settings, blank out the text you entered and click Save Changes

NB. Changing the Menu Title for a user-definable pages (e.g. 'About Page 1' or 'About Team Page 1') will set the URL of that page to the Menu Title with spaces exchanged for dashes (e.g. Activity-Centre).

Reorder Pages on a Menu

Change the order in which pages are displayed on a menu or sub-menu.

You may want to change the order of pages on a menu or sub-menu to draw the website visitor's attention towards pages that you are promoting.

To change the order in which pages are displayed on a menu or sub-menu, follow these steps:

  • Login with a Site Admin username and password
  • Open Admin/Page Management
  • Navigate through the menus to find the page to change
  • Use the Up and Down buttons to move the page up and down your menu
  • Click Save Changes

Create a New Page

Create your own pages using the modules that are purpose built for UK Scouting.

If you haven't found a pre-populated page for your needs, you may create your own pages.

Your Scouts Online website comes with tools for adding content to pages, custom built for UK Scouting.

You may switch on a user-definable page in Admin/Page Management OR by clicking the + New Page button and scroll down to the highlighted page

Either way, set the fields as follows:

  • Change the Menu Title, Menu Sub Title and Page Header
  • Set the Privacy of the page
  • If the Privacy field is set to anything other than 'Any website visitor', you may want to tick the Show If Private field to ensure all website visitors can see the page on the menu, and know that they'll need to login before seeing the page.
  • Click Save Changes

Use Facebook Pixel

Target your Facebook advertising to people who have recently viewed specific pages on your website.

If you use facebook adverts in your recruitment or fundraising campaigns, you could target your advert audience to people who have recently viewed one of your website pages.

After registering for a Facebook 'pixel' you can add the pixel ID to the page's Facebook Pixel ID field in Admin/Page Management. This will automatically add the required facebook script/code to your web page, without affecting the page appearance. When a website visitor views the page, facebook is alerted.

After allowing facebook a week or two to collect data, you could setup a facebook pixel campaign. The facebook advert will be displayed specifically to people who have viewed your web page, based on your facebook pixel ID.
